Hide SharePoint Sync Button

MS Link

Microsoft SharePoint Online document libraries include a “Sync” button that allows users to sync files to their local OneDrive. While useful in some cases, many organizations—including those focused on compliance or governance—prefer to disable this option in specific site collections or libraries.

CODGrid’s SPFx Hide Sync Button Extension solves this challenge by allowing organizations to hide the Sync button using a site-scoped, lightweight SharePoint Framework (SPFx) Application Customizer.

  • Hides the “Sync” button on modern SharePoint libraries

  • Applies only to specific site collections

  • Requires no tenant-wide deployment

  • Built with SPFx 1.18.1, compatible with Node.js 18.x

  • Ideal for compliance, DLP, and information governance

The solution uses an SPFx Application Customizer extension to inject lightweight CSS that hides the Sync button from the document library toolbar. It does not impact site performance or user experience.

  • đŸ’Œ Financial institutions that restrict local file sync

  • đŸ„ Healthcare providers under HIPAA compliance

  • đŸ›ïž Government organizations with strict DLP policies

  • 📁 Project-based teams where syncing is unnecessary

  • 1. Deploy the App Package

Upload the .sppkg file to your Site Collection App Catalog (not the Tenant App Catalog).

    2. Add the App to Your Site

Go to your Site Contents > Add an app, and install “Hide Sync Button Extension”.

    3. Refresh Your Library

The Sync button will now be hidden from the document library toolbar on modern SharePoint pages.

    • SharePoint Online

    • Modern document libraries

    • Node.js v18.x for local development (if customizing)

    • Site Collection App Catalog enabled

    • Need help deploying it or want it tailored to your governance policies?
